Help Stop Bullying

Opportunity for Your Students to Shape and See a Play, and Help Stop Bullying!

TAPIT/new works Ensemble Theater, a 25-year old professional, non-profit arts organization, is offering a timely project for the 2010-2011 school year.

Beginning with a free theater workshop for your students, 4th – 5th grades and 6th – 8th grades, two artists from TAPIT/new works Ensemble Theater will visit your school to work with 35 – 40 students. The two artists, Danielle Dresden and Donna Peckett will conduct hands-on workshops in theater and movement on the topic of bullying. Through creative drama exercises, students will discuss and explore their experiences with bullying and develop their own ability to take a stand against bullying. There is no charge for this workshop.

Information gathered in the workshops at your school will be used to develop an original theater production – “Bullying: The Musical” – and the words and ideas of your students will be represented on stage.

A special school performance of “Bullying: The Musical” will be offered for 4th – 8th grade audiences on Friday, March 11, 2011, at 10:00 AM, at the Barrymore Theatre on Madison’s east side. The cost for the matinee is $5 per person.

“Bullying: The Musical” will be performed by an all-youth cast, with a live band. The production will include a script based on student input and written by Danielle Dresden, Producing Artistic Director of TAPIT/new works Ensemble Theater; stage direction by UW-graduate student and spoken word artist, Lorraine Jaki-Terry; music composed by Dave Adler of the Gomers; choreography by Donna Peckett, Producing Artistic Director of TAPIT/new works Ensemble Theater.

This is why we are writing you. We would like to schedule a free workshop at your school or community center, and start making arrangements for your students to attend the full production of “Bullying: The Musical” on Friday, March 11, 2011, at 10:00 AM at the Barrymore Theater.

We are available for free workshops during school hours or after school,

Monday – Thursday for the months of October, November and December.

Please respond to this email by November 20 to let us know when your school or community center could accommodate a free workshop, and let us know how many of your students will attend the full production of “Bullying: The Musical.”

Thank you,

Paul Konz, AdministrativeAssistant
